" From abandoned to alive. A small house reborn as a cooking studio and home sweet home. "
KMCH (Kluaynamthai Micro House) is a small one-story abandoned house design and renovation project by Too Architects. The intention is to renovate a 50 square meter house into a cooking studio and residence for the owner themselves. Due to the limitation of space and the more requirement of the owner, We proposed the mezzanine floor form the existing structure to be a residential area.
The area in the house is divided into 2 parts, “Public area” located at the ground floor which is used as a cooking studio. Second part is a “Private area”, located on the mezzanine floor which is used as a bedroom, bathroom and private space for the owner. These two areas are clearly separated from each other for the privacy issue.
The kitchen island in the middle of the ground floor is the main area for cooking classes. We brought a double-volume height into the area for openness, airy and comfortable, together with large openings on the sides that allow natural light to come in to eliminate the narrowness of the space. Under the mezzanine is an area for kitchen and various kitchen appliances for specific types of cooking.
In the construction process, We had almost completely demolished the existing structure, leaving only the original 6 pillars of the house and focusing on the use of steel structures as an additional structure for the mezzanine area and the entire roof.
