"The relationship between people and water has disappeared from the Chao Phaya River, also water transportation nowadays started to fade away by the changing of generation."
The Chao Phaya river is part of Thailand’s history for a long time that intertwines with the city it flows through. This urban river flowing through the heart of Bangkok offers convenient boat transportation and sightseeing cruises. Many of the major city attractions are easily accessible from various points along this waterway. The relationship between people and water has disappeared from the Chao Phraya River, also water transportation nowadays started to fade away by the changing of generation. The accessible way to the river changed to commercials where people have to spend an unreasonable amount of money to get a river view.
In the past, river transit used to be a part of the culture but in this generation, people tend to use a car as the main transportation more than the boat, since for more convenience. The interaction of people to the river has been blocked by private properties along the river. I found there is a potential to create new public space from the relationship between people with the water to return the liveliness back to the Chao Phraya River.
The design uses modern architectural materials combined with the existing cultural elements of Chang pier, which reminds people about the history of this pier. The whiteness occurs during the day to make the space look clean, at the sunset it will shape the space with an orange tone with a golden sunset from another side of the pier. Moreover, the pier is designed as a public space for people to lay down and spend time along the river.
